Early Human Evolution

When we talk about the evolution of modern man. (Homo sapiens) We must remember that there were many different types of hominids around, each with it's own line of evolution.

For instance in Europe we find Neanderthal man, while in Asia we find Homo erectus. Both of these species were part of the Hominid family, but were not part of the same evolutionary branch.

To explain this, if you look at cats. There are so many different types of cat, from tigers to your own pet moggy. They all come from a common ancestor, but have evolved separately into different sub species.

It is a widely held view among scientists that Homo sapiens (that's us) evolved in Africa, and spread out gradually replacing all the other Homo populations.

We still don't have the fossil evidence to prove this, but a study of human genetics seem to support the African  Origin explanation.
